The process
Hazardous, medical and municipal waste incinerators hold the furnace under draft with an ID fan that sits after the quench, scrubber, bag filter and carbon injection. The gas at the fan is wet and acidic. Combustion air and secondary air blowers serve the primary and secondary chambers.
The gas
Flue gas after the quench and scrubber is wet, acidic and still carries fine dust. The fan is in stainless steel or lined construction, with a shaft seal and drains, sized at the saturated density.
Selection for this process
| Type | Guillotine for isolation, multi louver or butterfly for control, diverter where the gas is switched between two paths |
| Material | SS 310 or SS 316 for gas above 300°C or corrosive |
| Sealing | Seal air arrangement where tight shut-off is needed on hot or dusty gas |

Information needed to select or quote
- Gas volume and temperature. Actual flow at the inlet, normal and upset temperature, moisture.
- Dust or pollutant. Inlet loading, particle size distribution, whether it is abrasive, sticky, hygroscopic or combustible; for gases, the species and concentration.
- Required outlet. The emission limit or clean gas concentration the unit must meet.
- Site. Available space and height, material of construction preferences, and how the collected material is to be discharged.
