Roof Extractor for Jute Mills

An axial fan in a weatherproof cowl mounted on an inclined or flat roof, exhausting hot air from the ridge of a factory shed.. In jute mills the gas at the fan is air with fibrous dust, and that sets the blade form, the material and the drive.

The process

Jute batching and spinning release fibre and dust that is drawn to dust collectors, and the mill floors are hot. Open or radial wheels on the extraction, roof extractors for the heat.

The gas at the fan

Fibrous or stringy material that wraps a shrouded wheel. An open or straight radial impeller, spark resistant where the fibre is combustible, placed before or after the collector as the material allows.

Selection for this duty

ConstructionAxial fans in weatherproof cowls, or supply and exhaust units with filters as the air quality requires
Density at the fanAt about 35°C the gas density is close to 1.15 kg/m³, 95% of standard air. Pressure developed and power drawn fall in the same ratio, so the selection is made at this density and the motor is checked at cold start.

Information needed to select or quote

  1. Gas volume and temperature. Actual flow at the inlet, normal and upset temperature, moisture.
  2. Dust or pollutant. Inlet loading, particle size distribution, whether it is abrasive, sticky, hygroscopic or combustible; for gases, the species and concentration.
  3. Required outlet. The emission limit or clean gas concentration the unit must meet.
  4. Site. Available space and height, material of construction preferences, and how the collected material is to be discharged.
